I decided to finish off my training by doing a 200k Oregon Randonneurs brevet, the Wine Country 200. Because the start is about 65 kilometers from where I'm staying, I followed my usual practice of spending the night before at an inexpensive accommodation near the start.
In fact, it was the start -- the Grand Lodge of Forest Grove.
The company who owns the lodge specializes in turning historic old buildings into restaurants, pubs, and hotels, usually all under one roof.
The wall are completely covered with unusual art, like this painting.
And the Grand Lodge is very bike friendly. They allow bikes in the rooms.
And rooms are small but cute. Mine cost $45.
It was next to a place you would like!
Today, I woke up at 5:45 and found a fire being made in the reception lounge.
The course of the brevet wasn't too hard, except for the rain and wind. Too much of both. And I was the first person to finish, by a large amount of time. There were only about 15 riders, though, including Vincent Muoneke
Onaka ga dette iru!
After the finish, I had to ride 65k back to Barry's house, but I'm not too tired to write my wife and wish I could see my cats.
