罪からの自由

　　　So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

　　　ですから、子があなたがたを自由にするなら、あなたがた
　　　は本当に自由になるのです。
　　　　　　ヨハネ伝8章36節

True freedom is being free from sin. How does this happen? It happens
when we hear his Word---Christ was born of Mary, suffered, was crucified,
died, was buried, and rose again from the dead on the third day.

真の自由は、罪から自由なことです。それはどのように生じますか？　そ
れは私たちが彼の御言葉を聞く時に生じます。即ち、キリストはマリアか
ら生れ、苦しみを受けられ、十字架に架けられ、死んで葬られ、三日目に
死者の中から蘇られたという御言葉を聞く時です。

“Oh,” we might say, “I know that message well. It is a very familiar sermon.”
But let’s learn this lesson again from our children, for it tells us how we can
be saved and be set free.

私たちは、言うかも知れません。「ああ、その話は良く知っています。非常
に聞き慣れたお説教ですね」と。でも、この教えを、もう一度私たちの
子どもたちから学びましょう。その説教は、私たちがどのように救われ、
自由になれるかを教えているからです。

“Yes,” we might even say, “This teaching is too simple. That’s why it
won’t work.” But it’s a virtue that children can pray these words and
understand them so easily. We are old fools. The more educated and
intelligent we become, the less we know and understand.

私たちはさらに言うかも知れません。「いや、その教えは単純すぎて、
却ってうまく行きません」と。しかし、子供たちがこれらの言葉で祈り、
その言葉をいとも簡単に理解出来るのは、長所です。私たちは年老いた
愚か者です。私たちはより教育を受け、知的になるに従って、知る事
も理解することも少なくなるのです。

We must preach this message again and again so that all of us may be
satisfied and filled with its teaching.

私たちみなが、この教えに満足し、それによって満たされるように、私
たちはこの使信を何度も何度も説くべきです。

My hunger, however, has not yet been satisfied. This teaching is like
bread. No one ever grows tired of eating bread.

しかしながら、私の空腹は、今でも満たされていません。この教えは、
パンに似ています。誰でもパンを食べることに飽きはしません。

We fill ourselves with all kinds of food, but we never have enough bread,
unless we are ill and can’t eat. A healthy person will never grow tired
of bread.

私たちはあらゆる種類の食物で腹を満たします。しかし、私たちが病気
で食べることが出来なくならない限り、私たちはパンを飽きるほど食べる事
はないでしょう。健康な人は決して、パンを食べる事が厭になりません。

In the same way, Christians will never learn this completely during their
lifetimes, whether they are saints or even Mary or John the Baptist.

同様に、クリスチャンはその生涯において、この教えを完全に学ぶこと
はありません。たとえその人が、聖人であっても、あるいはマリアもし
くは洗礼者ヨハネであってもです。

So we must sit with the children by the stove and learn the lesson again.
There are some who say they have already been taught the message and
think they know everything about it.

それだから私たちは子どもたちと共にストーブの傍に腰かけて、その教え
をもう一度学ばなければなりません。自分たちは既にその使信を教えられ
ていて、それについては何でも知っていると言う人たちがいます。

But when troubles come, they desperately need someone to recite these
words to them again. They end up needing a four-year-old child to
show them how to believe.

しかし不幸になると、これ等の言葉をもう一度話してくれる人を切実に
必要とします。彼らは終には彼らに信じ方を示してくれる4歳児を必要
とするのです。
