JESUS IS THE WAY　　　October 18
イエスは道です。

　　　Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are
　　　going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered,
　　　“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes
　　　to the Father except through me.”
　　　　　　John 14: 5~6

　　　トマスはイエスに言った。「主よ、どこへ行かれるのか、
　　　分かりません。どうしたら、その道を知ることができる
　　　でしょうか。」イエスは彼に言われた。「わたしが道であ
　　　り、真理であり、いのちなのです。わたしを通してでな
　　　ければ、だれも父のみもとに行くことはできません。
　　　　　　ヨハネ伝14章5〜6節

Thomas thought it was strange that Christ was saying, “You know the
way to the place where I am going,” when Jesus had said nothing about
where he was going.

イエスがどこへ行くのか何も言われずに、「あなたは私が行こうとして
いる場所への道を知っている」と言われた時、トマスはそれを不思議
に思ったのです。

Thomas was thinking in simple and concrete terms. He was envisioning
a road that a person takes from one city to another or a path that a person
walks on.

トマスは単純で具体的な言葉で考えていました。彼は都市から都市へ
行く時に人が行く道路か、または人が日常通る小道を心に描いていた
のです。

The disciples were saying, “We don’t know the way. We don’t even
know through which gate you’re planning to leave. How can we know
the way?”

弟子たちは言いました。「私たちはその道を知りません。あなたが去ら
れる時にどの門を通られるのかさえ知りません。どうしてその道を知る
ことができましょうか。

Christ replied to their worldly thoughts, “Here’s what I mean: You know
the way. In other words, you know the person who is the Way---me.
For you see me and know that I am the Christ, your Lord and Savior.

キリストは彼らのこの世的な思いに対してお答えになりました。「私の
言おうとしている事はこうです。あなたたちは道を知っています。言い
換えれば、あなたたちは道である人、即ち私を知っています。なぜな
ら、あなたたちは私を見、私がキリスト、あなたたちの主で救主である
ことを知っています。

You are my disciples, for you have heard my message and have seen my
miracles. Since you know me, you also know the way and everything
else you need to know.”

あなたたちは私の弟子です。何故ならあなたたちは私のメッセージを
聞き、私の奇跡を見たからです。あなたたちは私を知っているので、
道だけでなく、あなたたちが知る必要のある他の全ての事を知ってい
るのです」。

This is remarkable. All our teaching and faith should center and depend
on Christ. Setting aside all of our wisdom and skill, we should know
nothing except the crucified Christ (1 Corinthians 2: 2).

これは驚くべき言葉です。私たちの全ての教えや信仰は、キリストに
中心を置き、キリストに依存するものでなければなりません。私たち
の知恵や技術は脇に置いて、十字架に釘(つ)けられたキリスト以外に
は何ものをも知るべきではありません(コリント前書2章2節)。

From God’s perspective, the highest wisdom and knowledge above all
other wisdom and knowledge is truly know this person Christ. We
come to God through Christ alone.

神の見方からすれば、全ての他の知恵と知識よりも上にある、最高の
知恵と知識は、この人、キリストを真に知ることです。私たちはただ
キリストを通して神に至るのです。
