READING THE PSALMS WITH LUTHER

Psalm94 　詩篇第94篇

1.　　O LORD, God of vengeance,
　　　O God of vengeance, shine forth!

　　　復讐の神　主よ
　　　復讐の神よ　光を放ってください。

2.　　Rise up, O judge of the earth;
　　　repay to the proud what they deserve!

　　　地を裁く方よ　立ち上がってください。
　　　高ぶる者に報復してください。

3.　　O LORD, how long shall the wicked,
　　　how long shall the wicked exult?

　　　主よ　いつまでですか　悪しき者が
　　　いつまでですか　悪しき者が勝ち誇るのは。

4.　　They pour out their arrogant words;
　　　all the evil-doers boast.

　　　彼らは放言し　横柄に語り
　　　不法を行う者はみな自慢します。

5.　　They crush your people, O LORD,
　　　and afflict your heritage.

　　　主よ　彼らはあなたの民を打ち砕き
　　　あなたのゆずりの民を苦しめています。

6.　　They kill the widow and the sojourner,
　　　and murder the fatherless;

　　　彼らはやもめや寄留者を殺し

7.　　and they say, “The LORD does not see;
　　　the God of Jacob does not perceive.”

8.　　Understand, O dullest of the people!
　　　Fools, when will you be wise?

　　　気づけ。民のうちのまぬけな者どもよ

9.　　He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
　　　He who formed the eye, does he not see?

10. 　He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
　　　He who teaches man knowledge---

　　　国々を戒める方が　責めないだろうか。
　　　人に知識を教えるその方が。

11. 　the LORD---knows the thought of man,
　　　that they are but a breath.

　　　主は　人の思い計ることが
　　　いかに空しいかを　知っておられる。

12. 　Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O LORD,
　　　and whom you teach out of your law,

　　　なんと幸いなことでしょう。
　　　主よ　あなたに戒められ
　　　あなたのみおしえを教えられる人は。

13. 　to give him rest from days of trouble,
　　　until a pit is dug for the wicked.

　　　わざわいの日に
　　　あなたはその人に平安を与えられます。
　　　しかし　悪しき者のためには穴が掘られます。

14. 　For the LORD will not forsake his people;
　　　he will not abandon his heritage;

　　　まことに主は　ご自分の民を見放さず
　　　ご自分のゆずりの民を　お見捨てになりません。

15. 　for justice will return to the righteous,
　　　and all the upright in heart will follow it.

　　　こうして　さばきは再び義に戻り
　　　心の直ぐな人はみな　これに従います。

16. 　Who rises up for me against the wicked?
　　　Who stands up for me against evildoers?

　　　だれが私のために　悪を行う者に向って立ち上がるでしょうか。
　　　だれが私のために　不法を行う者に向って堅く立つでしょうか。

17. 　If the LORD had not been my help,
　　　my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence.

　　　もしも主が私の助けでなかったなら
　　　私のたましいは　ただちに　沈黙のうちに　とどまったでしょう。

18. 　When I thought, “My foot slips,”
　　　your steadfast love, O LORD, held me up.

　　　「私の足はよろけています」と私が言ったなら
　　　主よ　あなたの恵みで　私を支えてください。

19. 　When the cares of my heart are many,
　　　your consolations cheer my soul.

　　　私のうちで　思い煩いが増すときに
　　　あなたの慰めで私のたましいを喜ばせてください。

20. 　Can wicked rulers be allied with you,
　　　those who frame injustice by statute?

　　　破滅をもたらす法廷があなたを仲間に加えるでしょうか。
　　　おきてに従いながら　邪悪なことを謀る者どもが。

21. 　They band together against the life of the righteous
　　　and condemn the innocent to death.

　　　彼らは　正しい者のいのちを求めてともに集まり
　　　不義に定めて　咎なき者の血を流します。

22. 　But the LORD has become my stronghold,
　　　and my God the rock of my refuge.

　　　しかし主は私の砦となり　
　　　私の神は　私の避け所となられました。

23. 　He will bring back on them their iniquity
　　　and wipe them out for their wickedness;
　　　the LORD our God will wipe them out.

　　　主は彼らの不義をその身に返し
　　　彼ら自身の悪によって　彼らを滅ぼされます。
　　　私たちの神　主が　彼らを滅ぼされます。



(解説)
The 94th psalm is a psalm of prayer that, by my understanding,
cries out not against the heathen but against the kings and princes,
priests, and prophets.

詩篇第94篇は、祈りの詩です。私の理解では、異教徒に対してではなく
王や貴族、僧侶そして預言者に対して叫んでいます。

The psalmist calls them fools among the people, senseless ones who
teach and rule the people foolishly and badly. These are the ones
who kill and persecute all the godly prophets and other disciples.

詩人は彼らを、民の中の愚者たちと呼びます。彼らには良識がないの
で民衆を愚かで下手に教え、そして治めていると言います。これらの人
が敬虔な預言者や、その他の弟子たちを殺したり迫害したりしているの
です。

As the psalmist says, they presume upon God. He has given them
the power and has stood by and watched, not paying attention to those
whom they slaughtered as condemned heretics and rebels.

詩人が言っているように、彼らは神を勝手に考えています。神は彼らに
権力を与え、彼らの側に立ち、見ていますが、彼らが異端者や謀反人と
宣告して殺した人たちに注意していないと考えているのです。

Against these authorities the psalmist prays, desiring help and support.

詩人はこれらの権力者たちに抗して祈り、助力と支援を望んでいます。

Although he finds no help, he takes comfort in his confidence that
God’s Word and actions are reliable, and God will not allow the
corrupt throne to come to them but will repay them for their lies and
murders. Amen.

彼は何の助けも見出せませんでしたが、神の御言葉と御業は信頼できる
ということを確信して慰めを得ていました。王座が腐敗すれば神は王座
にある者を赦さず、神は彼らの嘘と人殺しに報いられると確信していた
のです。



(PRAYER 祈り)
Lord, You are a merciful and jealous God. Convert Your enemies,
and draw to You those that are going astray; but restrain the malicious
persecutors of Your Church and the willful corrupters of Your truth.

主よ、あなたは慈愛深くまた嫉妬深い神です。あなたの敵たちを回心さ
せ、あなたの許に引き付けてください。彼らは道を踏み外しているので
す。しかしあなたの教会を迫害する悪意ある者たちと、あなたの真理を
故意に腐敗させる者たちを抑制してください。

Bring their counsels to naught, and show that You are the Lord.
Build Your Church, and make it a city upon a hill for the salvation of
many, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

彼らの謀を無に帰させてください。そしてあなたが主であることを示し
てください。あなたの教会を建ててください。そして多くの人たちを救
うためにそれを丘の上の町にしてください。イエス・キリストにより、
