READING THE PSALMS WITH LUTHER

Psalm107 　詩篇第107篇　Part1

1.　　Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,
　　　for his steadfast love endures forever!

　　　「主に感謝せよ。　主はまことにいつくしみ深い。
　　　その恵みはとこしえまで。」

2.　　Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
　　　whom he has redeemed from trouble

　　　主に贖われた者は　そう言え。
　　　主は彼らを敵の手から贖(あがな)い

3.　　and gathered in from the lands,
　　　from the east and from the west,
　　　from the north and from the south.

　　　国々から彼らを集められた。
　　　東からも西からも　北からも南からも。

4.　　Some wandered in desert wastes,
　　　finding no way to a city to dwell in;

　　　彼らは荒野や荒れ地をさまよい
　　　人が住む町への道を見出せなかった。

5.　　hungry and thirsty,
　　　their soul fainted within them.

　　　飢えと渇きによって
　　　彼らのたましいは衰え果てた。

6.　　Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
　　　and he delivered them from their distress.

　　　この苦しみのときに　彼らが主に向かって叫ぶと
　　　主は彼らを苦悩から救い出された。

7.　　He led them by a straight way
　　　till they reached a city to dwell in.

　　　彼らをまっすぐな道に導き
　　　人が住む町へ向かわせた。

8.　　Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,
　　　for his wondrous works to the children of men!

　　　主に感謝せよ。その恵みのゆえに。
　　　人の子らへの奇しいみわざのゆえに。

9.　　For he satisfies the longing soul,
　　　and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

　　　まことに主は　渇いたたましいを満ち足らせ
　　　飢えたたましいを良いもので満たされた。

10. 　Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
　　　prisoners in affliction and in irons,

　　　闇と死の陰に座す者
　　　苦しみの鉄のかせに縛られている者

11. 　for they had rebelled against the words of God,
　　　and spurned the counsel of the Most High.

　　　彼らは　神のことばに逆らい
　　　いと高き方のさとしを退けた。

12. 　So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor;
　　　they fell down, with none to help.

　　　それで主は　苦役によって彼らの心を低くされた。
　　　彼らはよろけたが　だれも助けなかった。

13. 　Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
　　　and he delivered them from their distress.

　　　この苦しみのときに　彼らが主に向って叫ぶと
　　　主は彼らを苦悩から救われた。

14. 　He brought them out of darkness
　　　and the shadow of death,
　　　and burst their bonds apart.

　　　主は彼らを闇と死の陰から導き出し
　　　彼らのかせを打ち砕かれた。


(解説)
The 107th psalm is a psalm of thanks for the help that God shows
to all people in their distress, whether they are Gentile or Jew.

詩篇第107篇は、神が異邦人であるかユダヤ人であるかにかかわらず、苦難
にあるすべての人に示された助けに感謝する詩篇です。

This help the heathen have sought by various idols and we Christians
and the heathen have sought by various saints up until now (and to a
great extent still do):

この助けを異教徒は種々の偶像によって求めてきました。また私たちクリ
スチャンと異教徒はいろいろな聖人によって今日まで求めてきました(そ
して今でも多くの人が求めています)。

: For example, “St. Leonard has released the prisoners, St. Bastian
delivers from pestilence, St. George protects in battle, St. Erasmus
makes one rich, and St. Christopher has become the god of sea and
water.”

たとえば、「聖レオナードは囚人を解放しました。聖バスティアンは疫病か
ら救い出します。聖ジョージは戦場で守ります。聖エラスムスは人を金持
ちにします。そして聖クリストファーは、海と水の神となりました」。

We have thus divided all of God’s help among the saints, as the heathen
among their idols, and have stolen and robbed from God---to whom
alone this psalm is dedicated and to whom alone the psalm calls on
us to thank.

人はこのように、神の助けのすべてを、聖人たちの間に分けました。それは
異教徒がその偶像に分けているのと同じです。このようにして人は神から盗
み取ってきたのです。この詩篇はその神だけに献げられており、私たちにそ
の神だけに感謝するように呼び掛けているのです。



(PRAYER 祈り)
My sins fill me with care, Yet I will not despair.
　　　I build on Christ, who loves me;
　　　From this rock nothing moves me.
　　　To Him I will surrender,
　　　To Him, my soul’s defender.

私の罪は私を不安で満たします。しかし私は絶望しません。
　　　私はキリストを信頼しています。キリストは私を愛しています。
　　　何ものもこの救いの岩から私を動かせません。
　　　彼にのみ私は平伏します。
　　　私のたましいの守り手に。

If death my portion be, It brings great gain to me;
　　　It speeds my life’s endeavor
　　　To live with Christ forever.
　　　He gives me joy in sorrow,
　　　Come death now or tomorrow. (LSB 745: 2,3)

もし死が私の取り分であっても、それは私にとって大きな利益です。
　　　それは私の生の努力を速めます。
　　　キリストと永遠に生きるために。
　　　死は悲しみの中で、私に喜びを与えてくれます。
　　　今でも明日でもいつ死んでも良い。
