READING THE PSALMS WITH LUTHER

Psalm108 　詩篇第108篇　

1.　　My heart is steadfast, O God!
　　　I will sing and make melody with all my being!

　　　神よ　私の心は揺るぎません。
　　　私は歌い　ほめ歌います。
　　　私の心の底も。

2.　　Awake, O harp and lyre!
　　　I will awake the dawn!

　　　琴よ　竪琴よ　目を覚ませ。
　　　私は暁(あかつき)を呼び覚まそう。

3.　　I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples;
　　　I will sing praises to you among the nations.

　　　主よ　私は諸国の民の間で　あなたに感謝し
　　　もろもろの国民の間で　あなたをほめ歌います。

4.　　For your steadfast love is great above the heavens;
　　　your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

　　　あなたの恵みは大きく　天の上に及び
　　　あなたのまことは雲にまで及ぶからでです。

5.　　Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
　　　Let your glory be over all the earth!

　　　神よ　あなたが天で
　　　あなたの栄光が全地であがめられますように。

6.　　That your beloved ones be delivered,
　　　give salvation by your right hand and answer me!

　　　あなたの愛する者たちが助け出されますよう
　　　あなたの右の手で　私に答えてください。

7.　　God has promised in his holiness:
　　　“With exultation I will divide up Shechem
　　　and portion out the Valley of Succoth.

　　　神は聖所から告げられました。
　　　「わたしは　喜んでシェケムを分け
　　　スコテの平原を測ろう。

8.　　Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
　　　Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter.

　　　ギルアデはわたしのもの。　マナセもわたしのもの。
　　　エフライムはわたしの頭のかぶと。
　　　ユダはわたしの王笏。

9.　　Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I cast my shoe;
　　　over Philistia I shout in triumph.”

　　　モアブはわたしの足を洗うたらい。
　　　エドムの上に　わたしの履き物を投げつけ
　　　ペリシテの上で　わたしは勝どきを上げよう。」

10. 　Who will bring me to the fortified city?
　　　Who will lead me to Edom?

　　　だれが　私を要塞の町に連れて行くのでしょうか。
　　　だれが　私をエドムまで導くのでしょうか。

11. 　Have you not rejected us, O God?
　　　You do not go out, O God, with our armies.

　　　神よ　あなたはもはや
　　　私たちとともに出陣なさらないのですか。

12. 　Oh grant us help against the foe,
　　　for vain is the salvation of man!

　　　どうか敵から私たちを助け出してください。
　　　人による救いはむなしいのです。

13. 　With God we shall do valiantly;
　　　it is he who will tread down our foes.

　　　神にあって私たちは力ある働きをします。
　　　神こそが　私たちの敵を踏みつけてくださいます。



(解説)
The 108th psalm is a psalm of thanks, with words almost like Psalm 60,
in which the psalmist gives thanks for God’s kingdom.

詩篇第108篇は感謝の詩篇です。その言葉は、詩篇第60篇とほぼ同じです。
その中で詩人は神の王国について感謝しています。

Already in the first verse, the psalm exalts the kingdom of Christ and
prays that God will establish His kingdom in all the world and
accordingly bring David’s kingdom to its proper, final, full station.

既に第1節において、この詩はキリストの王国を賛美し、神がその王国を
全世界で建設することを祈り、したがってダビデの王国を、適切で、最終
的な完成状態にすることを祈っています。

For David had only a slight, partial piece (compared to the whole world)
of which was promised to come to him.

なぜなら、ダビデは、(全世界に比べれば)ほんのわずかな一部分が彼に所属
すると約束されたのです。

As Isaiah 9: 7 also says, He will reign “on the throne of David and over
his kingdom.”

イザヤ書第9章7節でも言われているように、彼は「ダビデの王座に就い
て、その王国を治め」るでしょう。

You, Lord Jesus, we worship as our King: to You we have vowed
allegiance, and under You do we desire to live.

主イエスよ、私たちはあなたを私たちの王として崇めます。あなたに私た
ちは忠誠を誓いました。そしてあなたの許で生きたいと思います。

So govern us by Your Spirit that we always remain citizens in Your
kingdom of grace, and when our earthly pilgrimage is ended, receive
us into Your kingdom of glory, that with all the hosts of heaven we
may forever magnify Your holy name. Amen.

それ故私たちを、あなたの御霊によって治め、私たちがあなたの恩恵の御国
にずっと留まれるようにしてください。そしてまた私たちがこの地上での旅
を終える時には、あなたの栄光の御国に受け入れてください。そのとき私た
ちは天の万軍と共に、あなたの聖なる御名を永遠に賛美するでしょう。
