READING THE PSALMS WITH LUTHER

Psalm118 　詩篇第118篇　Part1

1.　　Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
　　　for his steadfast love endures forever!

　　　主に感謝せよ。主はまことにいつくしみ深い。
　　　その恵みはとこしえまで。

2.　　Let Israel say,
　　　“His steadfast love endures forever.”

　　　さあ　イスラエルよ　言え。
　　　「主の恵みはとこしえまで。」

3.　　Let the house of Aaron say,
　　　“His steadfast love endures forever.”

　　　さあ　アロンの家よ　言え。
　　　「主の恵みはとこしえまで。」

4.　　Let those who fear the LORD say,
　　　“His steadfast love endures forever.”

　　　さあ　主を恐れる者たちよ　言え。
　　　「主の恵みはとこしえまで。」

5.　　Out of my distress I called on the LORD;
　　　the LORD answered and set me free.

　　　苦しみのうちから　私は主を呼び求めた。
　　　主は答えて　私を広やかな地へ導かれた。

6.　　The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.
　　　What can man do to me?

　　　主は私の味方。　私は恐れない。
　　　人は私に何ができよう。

7. 　　The LORD is on my side as my helper;
　　　I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.

　　　主は私の味方　私を助けるかた。
　　　私は　私を憎む者をものともしない。

8.　　It is better to take refuge in the LORD
　　　than to trust in man.

　　　主に身を避けることは
　　　人に信頼するよりも良い。

9.　　It is better to take refuge in the LORD
　　　than to trust in princes.
　　　主に身を避けることは
　　　君主たちに信頼するよりも良い。

10. 　All nations surrounded me;
　　　in the name of the LORD I cut them off!

　　　すべての国々が私を取り囲んだ。
　　　しかし主の御名によって　私は彼らを断ち切る。

11. 　They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side;
　　　in the name of the LORD I cut them off!

　　　彼らは私を取り囲んだ。まことに私を取り囲んだ。
　　　しかし主の御名によって　私は彼らを断ち切る。

12. 　They surrounded me like bees;
　　　they went out like a fire among thorns;
　　　in the name of the LORD I cut them off!

　　　蜂のように　彼らは私を取り囲んだが
　　　茨の火のように消された。
　　　主の御名によって　私は彼らを断ち切る。

13. 　I was pushed hard, so that I was falling,
　　　but the LORD helped me.

　　　おまえは私を激しく押し倒そうとしたが
　　　主が私を助けられた。

14. 　The LORD is my strength and my song;
　　　he has become my salvation.

　　　主は私の力　またほめ歌。
　　　主は私の救いとなられた。

The 118th psalm is a psalm of thanks and my dearest, most beloved
Confitemini[the Latin title of the psalm].

詩篇第118篇は、感謝の詩篇で、私の大好きな最も愛すべき詩篇です。

It gives thanks and also prophesies of the Christian and of Christ, the
rejected cornerstone.

この詩篇は感謝の詩篇ですが、また、クリスチャンと捨てられた隅の親石
であるキリストを預言するものでもあります。

This psalm is a general statement of thanksgiving for all the kindnesses
God daily and unceasingly showers on all men, both good and evil.

この詩篇は神様が善い人にも悪い人にも、日ごとに、そして絶え間なく注
がれる全ての恵みに対する一般的な感謝を述べています。

… This psalm praises God especially for the greatest benefit He bestowed
on the world, namely, for Christ and His kingdom of grace---first
promised and now revealed. (Luther’s Works 14: 47)

この詩篇は神様が世界にお授けになった最大の恵み、具体的には先ず約束さ
れ、そして今は明らかにされているキリストとその恵みの王国について神を
讃えています。(「ルター著作集」14: 47)


(PRAYER 祈り)
Give thanks to the Lord, O my soul. Worship Him and trust His
mercy and truth; for they are as great as He Himself is, and they
endure forever.

わがたましいよ、主に感謝しなさい。主を崇め、その恵みと真理を信頼し
なさい。それらは主御自身と同じぐらい大きく、永遠に続くからです。

Let the Lord be Your meditation and Your song in the house of Your
pilgrimage because He has given You strength, and has set before you
the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ. Amen.

あなたの巡礼の宿で、主を瞑想し、また賛美の歌としなさい。主はあなた
に力をお与えになり、またあなたの眼前にイエス・キリストにある永遠の
生命の希望をお見せになったからです。　アーメン。
