Peace on earth! Not universal peace, which is not coming till He shall be manifested, but real, solid peace in the hearts of some chosen individuals, a thing unknown on this sin-stricken earth, among the fallen children of man: peace that passeth all understanding, undisturbed by the rage of heathens and unbelievers: peace true and immovable because conferred by the Prince of Peace.

What though nations learn war on gigantic scales, and the so-called Christian nations are the most warlike? The peace is ours by faith, and the Star of Bethlehem is no empty emblem, and the angelic song, no hollow sound.

“There is no peace, saith the Lord unto the wicked”; but unto the just, or the justified by faith, peace there is, EVEN NOW. Isaiah 48:22.

　地には平和と言う。世界の平和を言うのではない。その平和は、キリストが再び顕現されるまでは来ない。神に選ばれた、ある人々の心に宿る平和を言う。これは罪に打たれた地の上に、また堕落した人の子等の間には知られていない平和である。人のすべての思いを超えた平和である。

異教の民と不信者等は騒ぎ立っても壊すことの出来ない平和である。平和の主(きみ)が与えて下さった平和なので、動かすことの出来ない平和である。

世界の国民は、大規模な戦争準備をなしつつあり、そしていわゆるキリスト教国の民が最も好戦的な民であるけれども、敢えて意とするに足りない。真の平和は信仰によって我が有(もの)である。私たちにとっては、ベツレヘムの星は意味のない表号ではない。また天使の歌は空音ではない。

「エホバ曰ひ給ふ、悪者には平和あるなし」と。けれども義者即ち信仰によって義とされた者には平和は確実にあり、今現に在りである(イザヤ書48章22節)。
