忘れられていると感じる

　　　But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and
　　　the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent
　　　a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.

　　　神は、ノアと、彼とともに箱舟の中にいた、すべての獣および
　　　すべての家畜を覚えておられた。神は地の上に風を吹き渡らせ
　　　た。すると水は引き始めた。
　　　　　　創世記8章1節

Being trapped inside that floating container for such a long time was
no joke and could hardly be described as fun. Noah and his family
saw the torrential downpour and tossed back and forth on the rising
floodwaters.

箱舟の中に長い間閉じ込められているのは、大変な事であり、面白い事
とはとても言えなかったでしょう。ノアとその家族は、滝のような雨を
見、盛り上がる洪水の上を波に揺さぶられていたのです。

Noah felt that God had forgotten them. Moses makes a point of this
when he wrote that God finally remembered Noah and his family.
Through faith, Noah and his family were able to overcome their feelings
of abandonment.

ノアは神が彼らをお忘れになったと感じました。モーセは、神がついにノ
アとその家族を思い出されたと書いた時、この事を強調しています。
信仰によって、ノアと彼の家族は見捨てられたという思いを克服すること
が出来ました。

But they had to struggle with their human natures. Because Noah had
never experienced anything this serious in the past, he wondered if God
would show compassion and remember him and his family.

しかし彼らは自分の人間性と闘わなければなりませんでした。何故なら、
ノアは過去にこれほど深刻なことを経験していなかったからです。それで
神は彼とその家族を憐れんで思い出して下さるだろうかと思案しました。

In the end, they conquered their anxieties. But it came with a
tremendous struggle. In the same way, young people who want to live
a pure and virtuous life must make a determined effort to control their
sinful desires.

ついに彼らは不安を克服しました。しかしそれは恐ろしい葛藤を伴いまし
た。同じように、清くて高潔な生活をしたいと思う若い人たちは、彼らの
罪深い欲求を抑制するために断固とした努力をしなければなりません。

Our human nature is weak. It cannot tolerate the idea that God may
have forgotten or abandoned us.

私たちの人間性は弱いのです。神は私たちをお忘れになったかも知れない
とかお見捨てになったかも知れないという考えに、人間性は耐えられませ
ん。

We even want to brag and take the credit for ourselves when God
remember us, looks on us with kindness, and gives us success.

神が私たちを覚え、私たちを優しく御覧になり、成功を与えて下さる
時、私たちはそれを自慢し、自分の手柄だと思いさえするのです。

Is it any wonder that we become hopeless when we feel as though God
has abandoned us and everything seems to be going wrong?

神が私たちをお見捨てになったと感じ、全ての事がうまく行かないよう
に見える時、私たちが失望するのは、何も不思議ではないでしょう。

Don’t forget that this story gives us a model of faith, patience, and
perseverance. It teaches us that we must believe and trust God. It
also makes us aware of our need for patience.

この物語は、私たちに信仰、忍耐、そして根気強さの模範を示している
ことを忘れてはいけません。この物語は、私たちが神を信じまた信頼す
べきことを教えます。それはまた、忍耐の必要性を気付かせます。

Yet patience is unnecessary if we have no personal struggles and doubts.
Even Christ calls us to persevere in difficult situations when he says in
the New Testament, “But he who stands firm to the end will be saved”
(Matthew 24: 13).

しかし、私たちに個人的な葛藤や疑いがなければ、忍耐は不必要です。
キリストでさえ新約聖書において「しかし、最後まで耐え忍ぶ人は救わ
れます」(マタイ伝24章13節)と言われる時、私たちに困難な状況で忍
耐するように呼び掛けています。
