RESPOND WITH GENTLENESS　　　January 22
優しい応答

　　　But in your heart set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared
　　　to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give reason for
　　　the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

　　　むしろ、心の中でキリストを主とし、聖なる方としなさい。
　　　あなたがたのうちにある希望について説明を求める人には、
　　　だれにでも、いつでも弁明できる用意をしていなさい。

When you’re challenged or asked about your faith, you shouldn’t respond
arrogantly. You shouldn’t be defiant or forceful, as if you were tearing trees
out of the ground.

あなたがあなたの信仰について挑まれたりれたり訊かれたりする時、
あなたは横柄に答えるべきではありません。あなたは反抗的になっ
たり、まるで木を地面から引き抜くかのように、言い込めようとし
たりしてはいけません。

Rather, you should respond with fear and humility, as if you were standing
before God and answering him.

そうではなくて、あなたは神の前に立ち、そして神に答えているかの
ように、恐れと謙遜を以て応えるべきです。

If you were summoned before kings and princes and had prepared yourself
well in advance with Scripture, you might think, “Just wait; I’ll answer
correctly.”

もしあなたが王や君主の前に呼び出され、またあなたが事前に聖書の
知識を十分に身につけていたら、あなたは「少しお待ちなさい。私は
正確にお答えしましょう」と思うかも知れません。

But the devil will grab the sword out of your hands and give you a shove.
You will be disgraced and find out you put your armor on in vain.

しかし悪魔があなたの手から剣を奪って、あなたを突き刺すでしょう。
するとあなたは恥を蒙って、あなたが武具を身につけたのは無駄であっ
たと知るでしょう。

He can even take your verses from your hands so that you can’t use them,
even though you have them memorized.

悪魔はあなたの手から聖句を奪って、あなたがそれらを暗記していても
それらを使えなくすることさえ出来るのです。

God allows this to happen to subdue your arrogance and make you humble.
So if you don’t want this to happen, you must stand in fear and not rely on
your own power.

神はこの事が起こることを許されるのは、あなたの傲慢さを抑制し、
あなたを謙虚にするためです。それだから、もしこの事が起こるのを
望まないなら、あなたは恐れを懐いて立ち、自分自身の力に頼らない
ようにしなさい。

Rely instead on what Christ promised: “But when they arrest you, do not
worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given
what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father
speaking through you”(Mathew 10: 19~20).

その代わりに、キリストが約束された事を信じなさい。即ち、「彼等
があなたを捉える時、何を言おうか、どう言おうかと心配してはなら
ない。その時には、あなたが言うことはあなたに与えられる。何故な
らあなたが語るのではなく、父の霊があなたを通して語るのだから」
(マタイ伝10章19〜20節)。

When you have to give an answer, you ought to arm yourself with Scripture.
But don’t pound it home with a proud spirit.

あなたが答えを与えなければならない時、あなたは聖書を身に纏いな
さい。しかし誇ってその武具をどんどんと叩いてはなりません。

Otherwise, God will tear the verse from your mouth and from your memory,
even if you were armed with all the verses beforehand.

そうでないと、たとえあなたが事前に全ての御言葉で武装していても、
神はあなたの口とあなたの記憶から、その言葉を取り上げるでしょう。

Therefore, caution is needed here. But if you are prepared, you can answer
princes, leaders, and even the devil himself.

それ故、ここに注意が必要です。しかしもしあなたが準備していれば
あなたは君主たち、指導者たち、そして悪魔そのものにも応えられま
す。

Just make sure you aren’t speaking insignificant human words but the Word
of God.

ただし、あなたは必ず、つまらない人間的言葉ではなくて、神の言葉
を語るように気を付けなさい。
