EVIL DESIRES WITHIN US　　　July 10
私たちの心の中にある悪い思い

　　　Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the
　　　world, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war
　　　against your soul.

　　　愛する物たち、私は勧めます。　あなたがたは旅人、
　　　寄留者なのですから、たましいに戦いを挑む肉の欲
　　　を避けなさい。

Peter points out here that no believer is completely perfect and pure. Some
think this passage refers only to sinners, as if believers don’t have any evil
desires.

ペテロはここで、どの信者も完全に理想的でも純粋でもないと指摘してい
ます。ある人たちは、この節は、罪人だけに言及していると考えています
が、それはまるで信者たちは何も悪い思いをもっていないと言うかのよう
です。

But study Scripture carefully and take note: On one hand, the prophets
sometimes speak of believers as if they were pure in every respect. On
the other hand, they also speak of them as still having evil desires and
struggling against sin.

しかし聖書を注意深く学びなさい。一方では預言者たちは時々、信者たち
が全ての点で純粋であるかのように話しています。他方では、預言者たち
について、未だに悪い思いをもち、罪と戦っている者だと語っています。

Some people cannot get comfortable with both truths. So look at Christians
as having two parts---the inner being, which is faith, and the outer being,
which is the sinful nature.

ある人たちは、二つの真理の間で平静を得られません。そこで、クリス
チャンたちは二つの部分から成っていると考えなさい。つまり、内側の
部分である信仰、そして外側の部分である罪深い性質(＝肉)です。

If you look at Christians only according to faith, they appear pure and totally
clean, for the Word of God finds nothing impure in them. When faith
enters a person’s heart and the heart accept it, the Word makes it completely
clean.

あなたがクリスチャンをその信仰だけによって見るなら、彼らは純粋で
全く清く見えるでしょう。何故なら、神の御言葉は彼らの中に何一つ不
純なものを見出さないからです。信仰が、ある人の心に入り、心がそれ
を受け入れると、御言葉はその心を完全に清くします。

Therefore, all things are perfect in faith, and we are kings, priests, and God’s
people. But because faith lives in us and we still live on earth, we at times
feel evil inclinations, such as impatience, fear of death, and so on.

それだから、全ての物は信仰に在っては完全です。そして私たちは王で
あり、祭司であり、また神の民なのです。しかし信仰は私たちの中で生
きており、そして私たちは今も地上に生きているので、私たちは時々、
焦燥、死の恐怖、等々の悪い気持ちを感じます。

These are still shortcomings of the sinful nature, for faith doesn’t yet have
full power over our outer being.

これらは、依然として罪深い性質の短所なのです。何故なら、信仰は未だ
私たちの外的存在(＝肉)に対して完全な支配力を持っていないからです。

In Luke 10: 30〜37, a man was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho and
fell among robbers who beat him and left him lying half-dead. Later, a
Samaritan bound his wounds, took him, and had him cared for.

ルカ伝10章30節〜37節には、エルサレムからエリコへ旅する男の話が
載っています。彼は盗賊たちに出会い、叩かれて半死半生になって転がっ
ていました。後になって一人のサマリア人が、彼の傷に包帯し、彼を(宿
へ)運び、世話をさせました。

Because this man was being taken care of, he was no longer deathly ill and
was sure to live. He had life, but didn’t have complete health.

この人は世話を受けたので、もう瀕死の状態から回復し、生き延びる事は
確実でした。彼は命を取り留めたのです。しかし彼は完全に健康になって
はいませんでした。

In the same way, we have Christ and we are certain of eternal life, but we
don’t yet enjoy total health. Some of our evil desires still remain with us.

同様に、私たちにはキリストがあり、私たちが永遠の生命を受けること
は確実ですが、しかし未だ完全な健康を享受していません。私たちの中
には、依然として悪い思いが幾つか残っています。
