誘惑の問題

　　　Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals
　　　the Lord had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really
　　　say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

　　　さて蛇は、神である主が造られた野の生き物のうちで、ほかの
　　　どれよりも賢かった。蛇は女に言った。「園の木のどれからも食
　　　べてはならないと、神は本当に言われたのですか。」
　　　　　　創世記3章1節

This passage raises a lot of questions. Some people become curious
and ask, “Well, why did God permit Satan to lure Eve into sin? Why
did Satan appear to Eve in the form of a serpent instead of some other
animal?”

この節は、多くの疑問を起します。ある人たちは好奇心を抱いて尋ね
ます。「それでは神はどうしてサタンがイブを罪に誘うことを許したの
ですか。サタンはどうして蛇の形でイブに現れ、他の動物の形で現わ
れなかったのでしょうか」。

No one can explain why God permits things to happen. No one
understands what he does or why he does it. So we should remember
the lesson that Job learned: no one can summon God into court to account
for what he does or allows to happen.

神が何故物事が起こるのを許されるのか、誰も説明できません。神が
何をどうしてされるのか、誰も理解できません。それだから、ヨブが
学んだ教訓を、私たちは思い出すべきです。その教訓とは、神が為さ
れたこと、または起こるのを許されたことを説明させるために、神を
法廷に召集することは出来ないということです。

We might as well argue with him about why the grass and trees aren’t
green all year long. It’s enough for us to know that all these things are
under God’s power. He can do as he pleases.

草や木は、何で一年中緑でないのかについて、私たちが神と議論するよ
うなものでしょう。これ等のものは神の力の下にある事を知れば、それで
私たちには充分です。神は御心のままにすることが出来ます。

Idle curiosity causes guessing and questioning. Since we are merely
clay in God’s hands (Isaiah 64: 8), we should avoid debating these matters.

根拠のない好奇心は、憶測や疑問を生じさせるだけです。私たちは神の
手中の粘土に過ぎないのだから(イザヤ書64章8節)、私たちはこのよ
うな事に関する議論を避けるべきです。

We can’t sit in judgment over the all-knowing God. Instead, we should
allow him to judge us.

全能の神を被告として、私たちは裁判をすることは出来ません。その
代りに、私たちは神が私たちを裁くのを許すべきです。

The only satisfactory answer to these and similar questions should be that
it pleased God for Adam to be tempted in order to test his ability to resist.
That is how God still works today.

これらの、またそれに似た質問への満足な答は、誘惑に対するアダムの
抵抗力をためすために、アダムが誘惑されることを神は喜ばれたという
ことに違いありません。神は今日でもそのように働いておられるのです。

After we have been baptized and brought into Christian kingdom, God
doesn’t want us to become idle. Instead, he wants us to pay attention
to his Word and make use of his gifts. So even today, he allows poor,
weak people like us to be sifted and strained by the devil.

私たちがバプテスマを受け、キリストの王国に連れてこられてから、
私たちが怠惰になることを、神は望んでおられません。それよりも私た
ちが神の御言葉に注意し、神の賜物を使うことを望んでおられます。そ
れ故、今日でも神は、私たちのような貧しくて弱い人たちが、悪魔に
よってふるいにかけられ、痛みを受けることを許しておられるのです。
