READING THE PSALMS WITH LUTHER

Psalm83 　詩篇第83篇

1.　　O God, do not keep silence;
　　　do not hold your peace or be still, O God!

　　　神よ　沈黙しないでください。
　　　黙っていないでください。
　　　神よ　黙り続けないでください。

2.　　For behold, your enemies make an uproar;
　　　those who hate you have raised their heads.

　　　ご覧ください。あなたの敵が騒ぎ立ち
　　　あなたを憎む者どもが頭をもたげています。

3.　　They lay crafty plans against your people;
　　　they consult together against your treasured ones.

　　　彼らは　あなたの民に対して
　　　悪賢いはかりごとをめぐらし
　　　あなたにかくまわれている者たちに
　　　悪を企んでいます。

4.　　They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation.
　　　let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”

　　　彼らは言っています。「さあ　彼らの国を消し去って
　　　イスラエルの名が　もはや覚えられないようにしよう。」

5.　　For they conspire with one accord;
　　　against you they make a covenant---

　　　彼らは　心を一つにして悪を企み

6.　　the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
　　　Moab and the Hagrites,

　　　エドムの天幕の民とイシマエル人
　　　モアブとハガル人

7.　　Gebal and Ammon and Amalek,
　　　Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;

　　　ゲバルとアンモン　それにアマレク

8.　　Asshur also has joined them;
　　　they are the strong arm of the children of Lot.

　　　アッシリアも　彼らにくみし

9.　　Do to them as you did to Midian,
　　　as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,

　　　どうか彼らを　ミディアンや　キション川での
　　　シセラとヤビンのようにしてください。

10. 　who were destroyed at Endor,
　　　who became dung for the ground.

　　　エン・ドルで滅ぼし尽くされ
　　　土地の肥やしとなった者たちのように。

11. 　Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
　　　all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

　　　彼らの貴族たちを　オレブとゼエブのようにし
　　　彼らの君主たちをみなゼバブとツアルムナのようにしてください。

12. 　who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves
　　　of the pastures of God.”

　　　彼らは言っています。
　　　「神の牧場を奪って　われわれのものとしよう。」

13. 　O my God, make them like whirling dust,
　　　like chaff before the wind.

　　　私の神よ　彼らを　風の前に吹き転がされる
　　　藁(わら)のようにしてください。

14. 　As fire consumes the forest,
　　　as the flame sets the mountains ablaze,

　　　林を燃やす火のように
　　　山々を焼き尽くす炎のように

15. 　so may you pursue them with your tempest
　　　and terrify them with your hurricane!

　　　そのように　あなたの疾風(はやて)で彼らを追い
　　　あなたの風で　恐れおののかせてください。

16. 　Fill their faces with shame,
　　　that they may seek your name, O LORD.

　　　彼らの顔を恥で満たしてください。
　　　主よ　彼らが御名を捜し回りますように。

17. 　Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever;
　　　let them perish in disgrace,

　　　彼らがいつまでも
　　　恥を見て　恐れおののきますように。
　　　辱めを受けて　滅びますように。

18. 　that they may know that you alone,
　　　whose name is the LORD,
　　　are the Most High over all the earth.

　　　こうして彼らが知りますように。
　　　その名が主であるあなただけが
　　　全地の上におられる　いと高き方であることを。



(解説)
The 83rde psalm is a psalm of prayer. It is much the same as Psalm
80, which clearly spells out the names of the Gentile nations; therefore,
the same summary applies.

詩篇83篇は祈りの詩篇です。この詩篇は第80篇とほぼ同じです。そし
て第80篇は明白に異邦国の名前を記しています。したがって同一の概要
が適用されます。



(PRAYER 祈り)
How often, O Lord of hosts, have You protected Your Church and
put her enemies to shame.

万軍の主よ、何としばしばあなたは、あなたの教会を守り、その敵に恥
をかかせられたことでしょう。

Grant us unflinching faith to abide in Your Word that we yield not
one jot or tittle of Your truth to please men.

あなたの御言葉を信じる断固とした信仰をお与えください。人を喜ばせ
るためにあなたの真理を曲げることがありませんように。

Continue to be our defense, expose the snares which the hypocrites
artfully lay for Your people, hinder the plans of Your enemies, and
show Yourself Lord over all, as You have done so many times of old.
Amen.

今後も私たちをお守りください。偽善者たちがあなたの民を落とそうと
巧みに設ける罠を暴いてください。あなたの敵たちの企みを妨げてくだ
さい。そしてあなたが昔何度もされたように、あなたが万物の主である
ことをお示しください。
