READING THE PSALMS WITH LUTHER

Psalm127 　詩篇第127篇　


1.　　Unless the LORD builds the house,
　　　those who build it labor in vain.
　　　Unless the LORD watches over the city,
　　　the watchman stays awake in vain.

　　　主が家を建てるのでなければ
　　　建てる者の働きはむなしい。
　　　主が町を守るのでなければ
　　　守る者の見張りはむなしい。

2.　　It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest,
　　　eating the bread of anxious toil,
　　　for he gives to his beloved sleep.

　　　あなたがたが早く起き　遅く休み
　　　労苦の糧を食べたとしても　それはむなしい。
　　　実に　主は愛する者に眠りを与えてくださる。

3.　　Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
　　　the fruit of the womb a reward.

　　　見よ　子どもたちは主の賜物
　　　胎(たい)の果(み)は報酬。

4.　　Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
　　　are the children of one’s youth.

　　　若いときの子どもたちは
　　　実に　勇士の手にある矢のようだ。

5.　　Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!
　　　He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies
　　　in the gate.

　　　幸いなことよ　矢筒(やづつ)をその矢で満たしている人は。
　　　彼らは門で敵と論じるとき　恥を見ることがない。



(解説)
The 127ths psalm is a psalm of instruction. It teaches us that worldly
authority and household order are nothing less than God’s gifts and rest
only in His hand.

詩篇第127篇は、教えの詩篇です。世の権力と家族の秩序は、神の賜物に
他なりません。そしてそれは神の御手の中にあります。

For where He does not give peace and good government, there no
wisdom, order, exertion, or armor can hold onto peace.

なぜなら神が平和と良い政府をお与えにならなければ、そこには知恵も
秩序も努力もなく、鎧兜は平和を維持できません。

Where He does not give good fortune, with wife, children, and workers,
there all care and work will be for nothing.

神が幸運を妻や子、そして働き手と共にお与えにならなければ、そこでは
すべての配慮や働きは無駄になるでしょう。



(PRAYER 祈り)
For the benefit of man, You, Father of mercies, instituted holy wedlock,
and have promised Your blessing to every house in which dwells Your
fear.

人間のために慈悲深い父であるあなたは、聖なる結婚生活の制度を定めら
れました。そしてあなたを恐れる全ての家に、あなたの祝福を約束されま
した。

Yes, even You sit at the fireside of them that love You, as at Your own
hearth and home. Cause Your peace to dwell under our roof, and bless
the labors of our hands. Amen.

そうです。あなたご自身の家の炉辺にお座りになるように、あなたは、
あなたを愛する人たちの炉辺にお座りになります。主よどうか私たちの家
の中にあなたの平和を宿らせ、私たちの手の働きを祝福してください。
